01-01-20  Akuma - very ill kitten

A five month old tabby kitten, was brought into the NYC-ACC shelter as a stray on Dec. 15th. This super sweet boy is no stray. He is very socialized and loves attention, especially head rubs. On intake, he was diagnosed with a fractured paw and, several days later, kidney disease. On x-rays, his kidneys are showing 3-4 times normal size and blood tests revealed very high kidney values. Pleas went out for Akuma, but no one stepped up for this boy. On Dec. 24th, he was scheduled to be euthanized at 2:30pm. The shelter vet believed that his kidneys were shot and he had no chance. How heartbreaking is it to know that a kitten will be euthanized on Christmas Eve? Within a half an hour of this boy losing his young life, Ready For Rescue stepped up to give him a chance. I drove Akuma to the vet that day. Not only is he the cutest little fluff, but he looked great and did not appear ill, despite his kidney issues. The vet placed him on IV fluids to flush his kidneys. Over the next several days, Akuma continued to eat like a champ, remained bright and alert, and interacted with staff. However, on Dec. 30th, his red blood cells plummeted (HCT 11%). He remained bright and alert, but was very anemic and needed a blood transfusion. The vet performed a transfusion that evening, but Akuma reacted negatively. His heart rate skyrocketed to 240 bpm, his temperature spiked, and he vomited. The vet immediately stopped the transfusion and stabilized him, but Akuma now needed ER. Yesterday, on New Year’s Eve (this little dude has a thing with holiday eves!), Akuma went to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Brooklyn. VEG’s plan for Akuma includes a blood transfusion, an ultrasound, a urine culture, parasite panel, ongoing blood work, and 48-72 hours of emergency care. Akuma’s estimate is $3100-$4500 with a rescue discount. Ready For Rescue takes in many medically costly cats and dogs from the ACC shelter, animals that would have otherwise been euthanized. They spent more than $100K in vetting this past year and are going broke. Akuma is just a kitten and deserve a chance to be a little lion. Please let's give him that chance. Thank you.

1-10-20  Calli - stray cat attacked by a dog

One of the kittens around my yard, ( about 5 months old I guess) was attacked by a small dog. I got the dog off of her and brought her up to my porch. She doesn’t seem to be able to move her back legs. She’s drinking normally and so forth but, I have no idea how, or if I can help her. If someone works with a vet or whatever and can help this baby it would be greatly appreciated. Yes I know there’s a chance she will need to be euthanized. I just don’t have the knowledge of the resources to help her. I’m in mount Sterling. Thank you!

TDC called in money for her to be seen ASAP

**UPDATE** Sadly, she was too injured to save, broken spine and many internal injuries. She is now on our memorial page

1-10-20  Another cat colony in need of food

I am currently feeding ferals for many years, I dont drive so I take the bus everywhere. I also go to multiple points on my town by bus with a shopping cart and feed. I am always taking pics. I have 6 cats on my own i kept from the streets, and 2 dogs. I live at the ghetto where ppl kick them by the minute. This guy from the area is helping me to spay/neuter all with his money. He also fixed my kitties and soon I am doing my dogs when the dpt open the voucher list. I buy food almost every day, Friskies Farm Favorites or Purina friskies seafood sensations for dry and they all also get any pate or shreds wet can from friskies, 3 cans per colony mixed with dry. I am unemployed, ride the bus, getting my high school diploma soon.

1-11-20  Vlad - dog that needs emergency surgery

his scary looking beast is Vlad. He is the true definition of a gentle giant, busting stereotypes and winning hearts every where he goes. Vlad is one of the mascots at a Almost Home Animal Sanctuary, a local rescue and rehabilitation organization, having been adopted himself through that very rescue! He has served as a paradigm buster, teddy bear, playmate, training buddy. With his big black brindle face and cropped ears, he has taught people not to judge a book by its cover. He offers love to visitors, being extra gentle with the young or timid. He helps model good behavior when people come to work on their own dogs. And, he even volunteers by visiting seniors! Vlad is a doll with others, big and small, 2 and 4 legged, cats and dogs. He needs emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction and an abundance of adhesions from a previous abdominal surgery. They are doing everything they can to save him, knowing the abundance of adhesions found add to the chance of complications. Vlad is loved very dearly by the many people he has touched and taught. Right now he is getting the best care, but his bill is steep and we do not have the funds to pay. We are praying that all of the work Vlad has done to educate and love people, will touch people who now want to help him. Thank you for considering helping this special boy.

1-23-20  19 house cats found in a cold shed

Aunt Helen's Cats In Need is asking for donations. Help needed! The other day we received a call about a gentleman who was evicted and has multiple cats and kittens. We have no space for additional cats/kittens but this gentleman reached out to many organizations and received no help. So here we are. Medical issues range from CH, missing fur, no eyes, UTI, eye infections, etc. None are spayed/neutered, all have to be tested for FIV/FeLV. Since last evening all of these 7 cats are in medical boarding receiving treatment. As you can see, medical boarding and treatment along with testing, etc will be expensive. Please help us to help these kitties. No negative comments please. The goal is to help these kitties. Easton animal hospital is boarding and evaluating the cats. There are 19, we are still in process of getting them all, they were in their house, then his truck and now an unheated shed, thus the reason for all the unhealthy. And the reason we want them moved as quickly as possible. We are reaching out to obtain rescues who can find homes since these are all friendlies, and everyone is still full.

1-25-20  Our 50+ feral cat colony in Schnecksville needs food

Got a call today, our elderly feral cat feeder in Schnecksville we have been helping for a few years needs more food. She just had knee surgery so she can't get around very well. Thankfully, I am only an hour away so I could take her several bags. This time I got to see a bunch of the cats but DUHHH I forgot to get  my camera out. I was too busy trying to get the kitties to come close for the Temptation snacks I got for them. So this is just a stock internet photo.  One day I will get a photo of them!!!  Anyway, if you can help, she does need more.

1-26-20  Another overwhelmed cat/dog/pig senior

I have a situation I've tried not to get myself too involved in but after seeing the animals today, I gotta do something. I need help again. Help with about 35 to 40 cats, 8 pigs and several dogs. The owner means well. He truly does. He loves animals but loving them isn't going to keep them from going hungry. This gentleman is another senior citizen, living on social security and food stamps. Can barely keep himself and his wife and their living situation above poverty level so feeding these animals is minimal. I spoke with him today as he was gathering acorns to feed to his pigs. The cats are all over the place. I counted up to 35 but he says there are more. He has pet pigs who have had 6 piglets a couple months ago and dogs who look ok for now but I'm not sure what they are eating. I've talked to him about fixing the problem. Meaning spaying/neutering every animal on his property, then eventually finding rescue for some if possible. Hopefully the little pigs. He just can't afford all these animals and it's gonna take a lot to talk him into letting them go but my main focus for now is getting them FIXED and FOOD! The cats are semi feral so this will be another TNR. I will even consider bringing a few to join my colony. Just to ease the burden for this couple. I had so much support for my kitties. Can I get some support again for these animals? They are right down the road from me. I'm going to call the organizations that helped with the vetting for my kitties to see if they will help with this man and his animals. Not sure who can help with altering piggies but I'll help with that too. I want all the animals taken care of and hopefully talk them into letting some go soon afterwards. Right now he's willing to take them to the vet for spay/neuter which is a huge step.

1-28-20  Kitty needing emergency vet visit

‼️ HELP! ‼️ Okay guys, I’m going to pre-apologize for being a giant pain the butt. I am having the worst luck with these poor cats and I really need your help. Late this weekend I noticed Duffy’s appetite had decreased. She had just been spayed on Friday & dewormed so an upset stomach isn’t totally out of the norm. Yesterday she didn’t eat all day and by this morning she was vomiting. I took her to the vet first thing this morning where they conducted several tests including blood work and X-ray. White blood cells are low and intestines appear abnormal. Her abdomen is extremely tender and she is vomiting to touch. I’m currently sitting in the ER waiting for her to be officially transferred to receive IV medication and more testing. The bill below is from today’s office visit. I don’t know what the ER bill will be just yet. Literally anything helps. I appreciate everyone’s support, I can’t tell you enough. Even if it’s just prayers, positive thoughts, whatever... we need them! Thank you! ❤️

1-30-20  Allentown Homeless camp needs help with their colony

We helped this group back in September and they need more. It is a camp of homeless people who are taking care of a cat colony.  They have all been spayed/neutered by these men who built their own makeshift trap/carrier to get them to the vet for their surgeries. They take very good care of these cats but they need more help with food.  They feed all canned food which is AWESOME and much healthier for the kitties.  I was able to send $100 worth from TDC but that won't last too long.
