6-1-14 Grace - kitten abused by children

Broken legs, DEEP cuts from a knife, ribs broken...skin burned!  Women intervened right before they were going to set the kitten on fire!  Kids tortured this kitten and he was about to be dumped at the Carson shelter. Jess Rachelle intervened. Jess is rushing the kitten to our vet in Huntington Beach. As some of you know we are in vet debt please if anyone can help!

Grace made it through her first night at the vets office and she LIVED. She isn't out of the woods yet...she will need to stay at the hospital for another 7 weeks. Two broken toes, two broken legs, knife wounds, burns, abrasions, dehydrated, and still happy to see people! Your donations mean the world to us.

6-3-14 Diego - cat with broken pelvis & hip

Deep inside the Middle East, in Jordan, a kitty lies helpless and scared inside a steel cage. His hip is broken, he is in pain and he is terrified. His name is Diego. It´s been a month since Diego appeared in the middle of a dusty Amman street, dragging his back legs and stood in front of the cars looking at the drivers in the eye. Someone got out of the car and tried to rescued him, he crawled away and hid under a truck. It took them hours to rescue him but they finally did. Diego was taken to a local vet who diagnosed with a dual pelvis fracture and recommended euthanasia as they don´t have the necessary expertise and materials to operate such fracture. Heartbroken the lady that picked Diego up went to another vet, that told her the same. Diego would die in Jordan.  It rained all night in Amman.  Diego was kept in a cage in someone´s garden. The cage was covered but he couldn´t seek refuge anywhere, he was terrified by the water and the thunders. An evening from hell for a broken kitty.  His condition has worsened day after day. Right now he is barely eating and in the words of his rescuer, when yesterday he tried to stand up on his right leg.. he meowed like his soul is aching. Life must be a torment for Diego in that cage. He has been there for over two weeks and he is getting worst. Pain, a broken pelvis and a blind eye.  We will go get him!!!!  RESCUED and operated on yesterday!

6-14-14 Maya - abused and neglected dog

This sweet girl is now in our care after having to deal with a cop seizing her, other vets, and a humane society. Thankfully everyone was very cooperative, helpful, super nice, and agreed to release her into our care! It's shocking to us that the "owners" are so upset about our post on our page about "their" dog.  She has a large laceration on her neck, several puncture wounds on her stomach and the vet in Arkansas "thinks" her front two legs have been broken at some point and healed without treatment. She is also infested with huge ticks. Court date is pending. Please stay posted on this sweet girl.....we, along with Cooper Vet will do everything we can to save her.  Follow her story and progress here:  https://www.facebook.com/MendingMya

6-17-14 Teddy Bear - very sick kitten  (PASSED)

This is Teddy Bear. He is a 9 month old male kitty who came to live with us on January 1, 2014. He was born missing his rear foot and needs a prosthetic foot later on in his life. First, we have to tackle the tough stuff; his health. We have had him to various vets and specialists since January 3rd. He has very bad anterior uveitis and he can't see out of his right eye. His right eye has a covering over the iris and pupil part. His left eye fills with blood into the iris and is very irritating to him. Both eyes get inflamed and he takes medication for the pain called buprenex (2 x day) and prednisolone eye drops (4 x day) for the inflammation. He has been on these drops for about two months now. He also has very bad gingivitis/stomatitis. He will need to have all his teeth removed and is currently taking depo-medrol injections to make his mouth and gums less painful and inflamed and oratene gel (4 x day) that I apply to his gums four times a day. We are fighting his diagnosis of dry FIP. He has been diagnosed with dry FIP by his regular vet, a Va Tech veterinary teaching hospital internal medicine doctor and Va Tech opthamologist. He has had two rounds of blood work and they came back normal. We think he is being misdiagnosed and want to give him a fighting chance. We think he has idiopathic uveitis and a bad case of gingivitis/stomatitis. He is also taking azithromycin (1 x day) for Bartonella. Teddy Bear has such a good disposition despite all he is going through and deserves a chance to live. You can follow his story here: https://www.facebook.com/TBearCause

6-18-14 Chapina - cat with eye abscess

JUST HAVING SAVED CHAPINA FROM THE STREET 5 DAYS AGO, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HER "NORM" WAS… THINKING SHE WAS PICKY WITH THE FOOD SHE LIKED, I TRIED DIFFERENT BRANDS,  THEN SHE BEGAN SHAKING HER HEAD, AND STOPPED EATING COMPLETELY. THERE WAS ALSO AN ODD ODOR, BUT NO TEMPERATURE. WHAT I DID KNOW WAS SHE WANTED TO EAT AND QUICKLY WAS UNABLE TO! AFTER BEING ON 4 MEDS FOR JUST ONE DAY, INCLUDING PAIN MEDS, SHE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO DRINK SOME LIQUIDS. ALTHOUGH SHE BEGAN TO WITHDRAW SOME, SHE STILL GOT EXCITED TO SEE ME AND ENJOYED RECEIVING LOVIES.
ODDLY, SHE HAD A STELLAR CHECKUP AND LABS A FEW DAYS BEFORE.  TURNS OUT SHE HAS A HUGE ABSCESS BEHIND HER EYE AND THE EYE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED!

6-20-14 Frank - Cat with ears & tail cut off, pneumonia

I feed a colony of cats at an office every night and a colony living in my yard. I first saw the cat that is now known as Frank about 4 years ago sitting in front of a house in the middle of my neighborhood. In January I noticed a cat going under the house with the yard cats (feral and semi-feral) and thought he looked like the cat I had seen several years before. This new cat looked just like the other cat, but it didn't have ears or a tail, was skinny, and generally rough looking. I spent months trying to get close to the earless cat. Under closer observation it appeared the ears had been cut off and the tail looked weird. That's when i realized that this was the cat I had seen before. I managed to pick him up a few times, he was terrified and shaking the first few times. Last week I picked him up and brought him inside so I could have him neutered. I discovered that he's not at all feral and is a total lap cat. I took him to the vet yesterday and when I walked in the door from dropping him off to be neutered, they called and said he needed an exam and antibiotics. It turns out that he's got pneumonia and FIV. He has 2 teeth that are broken and need to be extracted - the roots/nerves are exposed. He's in pain and can't eat dry food right now because his mouth hurts. I assume that this is why he's severely underweight. They can't give him anything for pain right now because of the pneumonia - could make his breathing more shallow. He needs to have the dental done the same day as his neuter because he doesn't need to be put under anesthesia twice so soon after having the pneumonia. This guy has had a very rough life and deserves to be loved and live pain free.

6-21-14 Oliver Chance - very ill tiny kitten  (PASSED)

Oliver Chance is near death & we knew as soon as we got the call about him that we could not waste one second. His temperature was so low that she had to slip him into her shirt and against her skin to keep him warm during transport. He is in big trouble. We are begging for your help. A Good Samaritan found Oliver Chance and was trying to take care of him but being young herself and  inexperienced with cats, she overestimated his age. She set out food for him and thought he'd be ok. She did not know how fragile kittens are. Little Oliver Chance is only about 3 weeks old and cannot eat on his own. When the girl went to check on him, she found Oliver lifeless. She rushed him to a vet but they were unable to give him the extensive emergency medical care he needed and suggested an emergency vet. That's when she called Angels. We all know how expensive it is to have a cat or kitten at the ER vet for an extended period. She could not get him that care and she knew he would not survive. Right now, Oliver is at the emergency vet literally fighting for his life. He is in an incubator, receiving intravenous fluids, antibiotics and dextrose. For the moment, they have him stabilized, but it is touch and go. He needs 24 hour care to give him a fighting chance at survival. The tests, treatment and supportive care could conceivably cost thousands of dollars.  We cannot turn away from this kitten when he needs us – needs YOU – so badly. We know we are asking a lot, but look into that little face and tell him he's not worth it. He matters. His life matters. We have to get him the best treatment that we can. We have to save his life.

6-21-14 Grace - 2 legged cat needs surgery

Grace the two legged cat recently rescued. She needs a leg surgery on both her stubs so she can be pain free. Right now Graces stubs are very painful the bone is very jagged and it is directly on skin causing it to cut and reopen often. The surgery that needs to be done will consist of cutting down the bone and smoothing it down then pulling the muscle over the end to act as a cushion. I have spoken with many vets and this is the best option for her and needs to be done. I am asking for any items you would like to donate to an online auction to help raise money and to take part in the auction.  (https://www.facebook.com/groups/288084364706389/)  This surgery estimates is $1,400 and up and ex-rays still need to be taken if you do not wish to participate in this auction please consider a donation through pay pal .... melina_csontos@hotmail.com Thank you

6-25-14 Grace - Blind Senior dog dumped by owners

Hi! My name is Chance, which seems pretty strange, because it wasn’t by “chance” that I was abanded by my owners and it wasn’t by “chance that I lost sight in both eyes; however, it could be by “chance” that I am looking for my “2nd Chance...” at life! You see, I cannot tell you much about my prior owner or my home because I can’t tell you what they looked like, but I can tell you how many steps it took me to get to my food dish and when to turn left or right to where my owners were by using my hearing and smell. I can tell you now that I am scared, very scared; I can no longer smell my owners (the ones that I use to think, loved me), I know longer know how many steps it takes to the food bowl! Can you imagine how I feel; to be blind, abounded and scared in a new place? You see my name is CHANCE and I really am looking for that 2nd Chance that so many do not get! As I lay here in my bed, I hear the staff and volunteers saying there is a “chance” for me to regain vision in my eyes. I hear them talk about this really awesome animal hospital that may be able to fix my vision; but as they speak I hear the worry in the voices because there are so many other needy animals here and they are not sure they can afford the extensive medical treatment. I really need you to help make my 2nd Chance come true, so that I may see in my new home, see my food dish and see the wonderful people here at my new home that have taken me and are caring for me in spite of my age and illness.

6-27-14 Cooper - dog dragged behind truck

Animal Control brought Cooper to us and he is unable to walk so he was carried in. His wounds were hidden behind his bandages.  He was sedated so the bandages could be removed. Most of his nails are ripped off, he is missing digits on a few of his toes, the skin is torn off in many places all the way to the bone, he is missing one of his kneecaps and all of his extremities are badly damaged. Cooper’s injuries are consistent with being tethered and dragged, The fur on his neck was indented were a collar had obviously been worn for most of his life and his head along with his upper body was unscathed. Most likely Cooper was tethered on the back of a truck and either fell or jumped off leaving him dangling/hanging- dragging his lower body and extremities across the pavement. Dr. Hedrick said with the extent of his injuries he was dragged for quite some time, filing away the flesh and bone.Dr. Hedrick has already started Cooper on antibiotics. He was also given pain meds and given a nice warm bath to clean his wounds, flea ridden coat, and fly bitten ears. A catheter was placed in his arm for fluids/medications and he was placed in a heated kennel in ICU. Donations for his extensive care is greatly needed.  (https://www.facebook.com/GingersFund/timeline)

6-27-14 Gryphin and Kearn - 2 broken cats

Gryphin was received from the NYCACC this afternoon. He has a load of problems and was sentenced to death without even being given a chance, so Oliver's Orphan Oasis decided to give him one. He is a 1.5 year old intact male grey tabby. Gryphin is blind and unable to move his limbs. Gryphin was reported to be like this since he was found 2 weeks old - but was never gotten medical attention. He needs full work up with body radiographs, a neurological consult, spine radiographs and possibly an MRI. He is a sweet boy, but he is confused.  Kearn was received from the BACC. With a femoral fracture and conjunctivitis this little one at only 8 weeks old is going to need some serious medical care. It was recommended that his leg be amputated, but we are going to hope that we can save it. Can you please help us?  https://www.facebook.com/OliversOrphanOasis?fref=nf
