9-5-15 Emiley - Very Sick Kitten

Emiley needs your thoughts this evening. She is about 3 or 4 weeks old and is currently having a blood transfusion at the emergency clinic. I happened to be at the animal shelter today and was asked if we could help her. She was almost lifeless. Emiley will have to remain hospitalized for the night. We have (as usual) told the doctors to do whatever is necessary to save her life. She seems to be stable and the blood transfusion is almost complete. We realize we ask so very often, but we cannot turn away kitties who need us the most. When I saw Emiley I did what any of us would do. I picked her up and took her to someone who could possibly save her life. But we need you....Emiley needs you. Please, even if you only have one dollar to give consider sending it to help us help Emiley.  By the way....Garfield is the handsome orange guy who gave blood for Emiley's transfusion. He is a kitty hero....how he is still searching for a home is something we don't understand. He is an amazing kitty. We will keep you posted...we are still at the clinic with Emiley.​​

9-8-15 Tidbit - dog with broken leg

We need your help to save Tidbit's leg! Tidbit was found at a local animal control facility when we went in to pull animals. He was found as a stray and his leg was obviously broken. He had been there 5 days so Tidbit's time was up at the pound. We took him straight to our vet where a displaced fracture, as you can see in the picture, of the left front leg was found. The orthopedic vet said his best chance to repair the leg was a plate to mend the bones. It is a costly procedure but the only other option is amputation. The surgery alone is $1800.00 and there are more xrays needed as well as his recovery medical cost. Amputation will cost $400.00. You can help to save his leg and avoid amputation with a donation. It is urgent-we only have until Tuesday to raise the funds. Thank you!!​​

9-13-15 Lady - attacked by dog

Lady was released to Animal Control on 8/31 as a stray after reportedly being attacked by a dog. She was treated for her puncture wounds, skinned tail, bitten head and made comfortable by the wonderful staff and volunteers at ACCT, but treating her dislocated/fractures front leg was outside the scope of what this high-intake shelter could offer. On 9/7/2015 Lady was placed on the urgent list and transferred to the Cat Shack.
Lady has now been assessed by Perkiomen Animal Hospital and Metropolitan vet hospital. In addition to her many puncture wounds and nerve damage, it has been determined that she needs URGENT surgery to correct a dislocation and growth plate fracture of her right front leg before it heals in place. This is not inexpensive surgery, however it will provide the Lady the opportunity to have a normal, working and pain-free leg. Lady was pulled from the euthanasia list to honor the memory of another former Cat Shack cat, Viola, who was also rescued after a dog attack. Viola recovered from her severe wounds and went on to be adopted, but sadly developed metastatic cancer and died far too young. Please help us to honor Viola's memory and help another young, beautiful cat recover from her terrible wounds. Both vet practices generously offer discounts to rescue organizations, but even with this discount the surgery cost will be in the $3000 range. She's in excellent hands, but this surgery expense is difficult for any rescue to manage. Please help and Share Lady's story so that we can get the care that she needs. 9-13-15 Feral cats in need of emergency vet care

Shelter Link received a call about a feral colony in need. When some of the volunteers checked it out they found very sick and emaciated cats. There is a pregnant mama, 3 small kittens and about 10-12 older kittens and adults. Tommy (in the picture) has an ear hematoma, eye issues and has started sneezing blood. He is priority. There are a few others with eye issues and possible respiratory issues as well. We will be starting TNR this week and would like to get them all fixed within the next few weeks. There are quite a few of them that are friendly and once they are vetted they will be available for adoption. These babies are extremely underweight and really need our help before they become even sicker. Please consider donating and help us save their lives.

9-14-15 Dylan - severely broken bone

Dylan was dumped in a feral colony to fend for himself. On a cold day in April his hunger led him under our drop trap. Although he had the tipped ear of a feral cat who has already been neutered, his breathing was raspy and he was showing signs of a pretty nasty upper respiratory infection. So my good friend, Patty Burkhart, said she would take him home and get him over his URI.  Dylan was put into a crate and put on antibiotics and since he was confined to the crate, he was not walking around for Patty to see that he also had a limp. After 2 months in the crate being treated for what we thought was URI but turned out to be a chronic sinus issue, Patty decided to let him out. He spent most of his time under the sofa, coming out only at night to eat, drink and use the litterbox, so his limp still was not noticed. In the past month, Dylan decided to come out and roam about the house and it was only then that Patty noticed the limp....which has gotten progressively worse the more he walked around and now he is not using the leg at all.  So off to the vet we went where x-rays were taken. It turns out that his leg is broken in several places. Dr. Fredericks called in Dr. Infernuso who has agreed to perform the surgery Dylan needs to save his leg at a reduced rate of $1,000 for us. Dr. Fredericks will handle the pre-op and post-op care for $800 so we need a total of $1800 to get this surgery for Dylan. At the same time that the surgery on his leg is performed, Dr. Infernuso will also remove his battle-scarred ear which is so damaged and folded over that the wax and dirt builds up and causes infection and hearing loss. Removing the ear will keep things clean and clear and infection free and help him to hear better. Dr. Infernuso will fuse the elbow and put pins in the leg. Dylan has turned out to be quite a mush, although still a bit scared. He does not have a mean bone in his battered little body!  To think of what this poor cat endured out in a hostile environment all last winter breaks our hearts and we are trying to help him live the life he deserves.
Dylan is safe in Patty's foster care but we need your help to get this surgery for Dylan as soon as possible so he can live a more normal life free of the pain he has endured for so long. He is only about 3 years old so he has a long life yet to live.

9-24-15 Mickey cat - needs dental surgery & heart murmer

​​Please help MICKIE get his much needed dental surgery. His gums are very red, he has teeth missing and fractured teeth. He is in pain. MICKIE is a very sweet boy and we hope to eventually be able to find him a forever home but he needs to get healthy first.  Mickey's pre-op blood work last night showed a heart murmur that had never been previously detected and he's a little overweight. Not the best news for a cat about to undergo surgery. As well his eyes are getting runny again. We still have some of the antibiotic eye ointment from earlier in the summer and will be giving him that again for the next 5 days. In the meantime if his eyes get worse or he starts to cough or sneeze, he'll have to go back on an antibiotic and the surgery would have to be postponed until he recovers.  So for his exam, the blood work, the vaccines it cost us $265. Given that we had only raised $550, if you subtract the $265 from that, it leaves $285 towards his dental surgery.  Have I mentioned that we are desperate and that this is urgent for MICKIE? The vet reiterated that MICKIE is in lots of pain and that this cannot be left as is. PLEASE DONATE and help this sweet boy get the care he so deserves. Surgery has been rescheduled for Friday. October 2nd.

9-26-15 Forgotten Felines - Shelter in danger of closing (they are a 501c3)

FFoM is desperate for money...we are at risk to close our doors to help if we cannot raise the money we need to pay vet bills. Not vet bills for a special cat but for all the cats we help, like the male cat in this photo. He is just a feral cat who was trapped last week, tested, neutered, given a rabies shot, ear tipped and returned to his colony. He cost us just $150 and while his feeder cares for him, he has no name and no one except God will remember him tomorrow. Cats like him don't tear at the heartstrings of the general public but it's cats like him who are just as important as every other cat out there and we help lots of them, lots of them! Every week we help them, we get them vetted and then return them to their colony. But we also have the pregnant cats, the momma cats and the kittens...they all need good food and vet care...each and every one of them. We are all volunteers. We all spend our own money to help these cats. We give of our time and our heart! All we ask is that if you believe in the work we do please, please, please help us to continue to help! $1, $10, $100, $1000...it all matters to us and we appreciate your help.  If we don't raise $5,000 by the end of October we will be closing our doors to helping. 9-26-15 Lexi/Patiala - severely injured dog in India

One more serious case! Our friend Mr. Navkar who is a kind man that feeds stray dogs informed us about a tiny pup that had a terrible infected wound. He said she arrived at his street but he does not know how she end up there on her own. When we arrived our hearts were completely broken, we felt helpless. The poor girl was wandering alone in the streets starving with a a fractured leg, a terrible infected open wound on the inside of her thigh and several sores all over her body. We simply can not imagine how much she was suffering, poor Lexi she was completely broken she was crying in pain. We immediately gave her painkillers to help her relax. Unfortunately there is no help available, all hospitals have a four day holiday, even the one in next city is closed as well. We are trying to find a private vet that can see her immediately. Team Guardians is hoping that she survives. For now all we can do is try our best to keep her safe. We cleaned her wounds and removed new eggs before they turned in to maggots, we placed bandages to protect her wounds, we also treated her open sores, her condition was simply awful. She was able to drink water which is a good sign. We were able to leave her in a safe place where a kind man is going to keep an eye on her, he will feed her as well. We are going to visit this girl continuously, for now our main focus is to try to find a Vet.

9-29-15 Oscar dog with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis

My mom's 2 year old affenpinscher mix that she adopted from the shelter two months ago is at the emergency clinic tonight suffering from HGE. His name is Oscar. Whenever my mom got home tonight, Oscar had had bloody diarrhea all over the house. She went to her regular vet who performed a parvo test (negative) and gave him sub-q fluids and sent him home! When my mom got home, Oscar continued to have large bouts of bloody diarrhea and I told her to go to the emergency clinic where they diagnosed him with HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). The vet at the emergency clinic said that if she had not brought him in when she did, he would not have made it.
